Ofsted says ‘special things are happening’ as Calthorpe Academy Retains 'Good' Ofsted Rating

Calthorpe Academy has retained its 'Good' Ofsted rating following a recent inspection. Part of the Thrive Education Partnership, a multi-academy trust specialising in academies for special needs across the West Midlands, Calthorpe Academy has been recognised for its exceptional commitment to inclusivity and support for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).

Under the stewardship of Headteacher Mounir Meghalsi, Calthorpe Academy has showcased an unwavering commitment to achieving excellence in special education. The Ofsted report lauded the academy for its comprehensive and ambitious curriculum, particularly praising its approach to communication, reading, mathematics, and life skills, ensuring pupils are well-equipped for life in modern-day Birmingham.

In the report, Chris Pollitt, HMI and lead SEND inspector for Ofsted, emphasised the academy's significant impact, stating:

"Very special things are happening at Calthorpe Academy. This community is driven to make every moment count for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities. The school is determined that those needs will not limit pupils’ achievements or enjoyment of the school and the world around them."
